For the Lower Saxony Forest Planning Office in Wolfenbüttel, we are looking for a

Geoinformatician/GIS experts (m/f/d)

It is a full-time job in accordance with E 11 TV- L. Your area of responsibility:

Development, Implementation and Operation of a GIS-based Client for Forest Inventory and Coordination of Ongoing Forest Inventories

Your tasks:

Development of an overall concept for the development/implementation and operation of a digital, GIS-based forest management application (GIS-based client) for the digital recording and planning of forests. The development/implementation is carried out in professional coordination with service providers, the company's internal GIS department and research institutions. Forest management is defined here as inventory, planning and critical assessment of the treatment of forests. In the transitional period up to the implementation of a digital GIS client, coordination is carried out by providing data and evaluations for forest managers in the forest and the plausibility check of the submitted recording data using the existing forest management process.

Basically, the area of activity related to the development and operation of the FE client includes:

  • Development of an overall concept for the introduction of a GIS-based standard procedure (FE client) to digitally support inventory and reporting, including by awarding service contracts.
  • The overall concept also includes the design of GIS-centered data storage for the FE client in collaboration with specialists from the Lower Saxony Forest Planning Office (NFP) and external service providers.
  • Market Exploration and Testing of Existing Products for Possible Integration into the NLF Software Environment
  • Tendering of Services• Coordination of Service Providers in the Development, Adaptation and Implementation of Software
  • Support in migrating old data from the previous forest management process
  • Review/revision of the existing FE process for rationalization potential together with FE specialists from the NFP
  • Operation of the FE client with packing and sending data packages to forest installers.
  • Data Verification and Evaluation After Collection
  • Ongoing bug correction and further development of the FE client
  • Preparation of procedural documentation in German.

In Principle, the Area of Activity Relating to the Continuation of the Existing Forest Management Process Until It Is Replaced by the GIS-based Client includes:

  • Plausibility check and correction of forest facility recording data in consultation with forest installers
  • Production and Provision of Forest Management Results
  • Supervision of forest speakers during the forest management training phase in cooperation with NFP staff
  • Preparation of documentation for forest maintenance
  • Preparation of offers for forest installation work for external customers

We expect:

  • Successfully completed studies (e.g. Bachelor/Master or Diploma) in geoinformatics, environmental informatics or a comparable geographical, related subject area in which GIS development is an essential part of the training.
  • Good Knowledge in the Preparation, Validation and Classification of Remote Sensing Data.
  • Good knowledge of ArcGIS (in particular: ArcGIS Pro, GDAL) .• Good knowledge of Python and R programming languages.
  • Knowledge of cloud, AI, machine learning, database technologies (Oracle-DB).
  • Good application-wide IT skills.
  • Initiative and independent work style
