Geoinformatician, computer scientist, information technician, etc. (f/m/d) Analysis, design and development of web applications for the EoC data portal
This is what you can expect:
The German Satellite Data Archive secures valuable data from national and European Earth observation missions and projects and makes them available for use in a wide range of applications. Developing software for an appealing presentation and easy access to this data is the challenge you face, integrated into a competent, experienced team. Based on current technologies and frameworks, you will independently develop and integrate modules for the EoC data portal, which makes our satellite data and derived scientific information products available to internal and external users. As a client to our geoservice data services, this web application offers overviews of data and services, various navigation options, map-based visualization, direct download of data and access via various geodata services. They ensure efficient implementation and ensure the long-term maintainability, development and portability of the system. You contribute your experience with current web technologies to our technical-scientific environment and thus take a direct part in our mission to collect, secure and make available for research unique data about our planet.
Your mission:
- Design of software systems for the web-based presentation of Earth observation data and information products and their access via standardized services at different levels of information (including data collections, metadata, raster and vector data) in close, proactive communication and organization within a team
- Analysis and evaluation of innovative technologies for web-based EO data access portals, taking into account the latest findings from relevant publications
- Preparation of contributions to specialist conferences and exchange with the expert community
- Analysis of requirements of different stakeholders and complex system environments in the area of payload data ground segments as well as for the integration and publication of scientific EO application data, in close, proactive communication and collaboration with other working groups
- Development of strategies for optimized data provision combining access, processing and archiving and their implementation
- Abstraction and conception of generic system functions and interfaces based on the latest findings in software design and including diverse, heterogeneous areas of application
- Definition and coordination of interfaces to other internal/external system developments and standards with participation and implementation of workshops and meetings (e.g. with ESA, CNES)
- Implementation of software modules for web applications on geodata in a Linux environment using modern tools and innovative technologies covering the entire life cycle
- Documentation and maintenance of software components for developers and operations
- Development of framework systems for automating and organizing software testing and delivery processes for novel web applications
- Support for the start-up of services, training and expert consulting for the operating team
- Management of the test and development environment and execution of test operations for the EoC data portal
That is what we expect from you:
- Completed scientific university degree (master/diploma university) in engineering sciences (e.g. fields of computer science, geoinformatics, information technology) or other courses of study relevant to the job
- extensive knowledge and experience in developing web applications
- very strong communication and organizational skills
- several years of experience in the selection and use of tools, frameworks and technologies in the context of modern web applications
- several years of experience in web design and layout, static site generators and server-side JavaScript
- very good knowledge of software design with UML and software engineering
- very good English and German language skills
- Knowledge of working with remote sensing and geodata is desirable
