At HAWK University of Applied Sciences Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen, the Faculty of Resource Management at the Göttingen site in the joint project “Future Lab ForesLab” funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture in the subproject “Development of a remote sensing indicator framework to monitor forest resilience” is to fill the following temporary position until 31.10.2030:
Research assistant in the field of forest remote sensing
(E 13 TV-L, part-time with 23.88 hours/week)
Your tasks
- Development of the future laboratory in cooperation with network and project partners
- Acquisition, management and evaluation of remote sensing data including laser scans and drone flights
- Development of indicators to assess the resilience of forest ecosystems
- Carrying out field surveys and supervising sensor installations
- Publication and communication of scientific results in scientific journals and presentations at conferences
your profile
- Completed university degree (master/diploma) in forestry, geosciences, environmental or related sciences with a focus on remote sensing and forest
- Ability to work independently
- Proven expertise and experience in evaluating remote sensing data, preferably LiDAR and satellite data
- Proficient knowledge of data management and statistical data analysis, preferably with R software
- Conceptual and organizational way of working
- Car driver's license
- Spoken and written German and English language skills that enable secure communication at work
- Willingness to take on field assignments and business trips as well as to get involved in teaching and academic self-government
- Experience in planning and carrying out forest inventories and forest facilities is an advantage
- Knowledge in managing geodata, preferably with open source software (e.g. QGIS, PostGIS), desirable
